Day 7- Fri. July 6/18

Image
During the night, rainfall was heavy, perfect conditions for a good night sleep. temperature is lowest for the whole week and now I can wear the black top. Greg said I am about 90kms away from Lewiston and it is only 100kms to Hamilton, so I have decided to try to make it to McMaster and drive home that evening. I want to get home to see Hon. I went through Greenwood Cemetery where lies buried Revolutionary and Civil war veterans. I am on Route 18, very flat, nice breeze off the lake, perfect conditions for a 200km ride. I went through a lot of small well kept towns and the lake is still very visible. I have a couple things that has happened during the ride which I didn`t say but I keep thinking about them and I wanted to share. The first happened on Wolfe Isl on Day 4. While riding I saw mommy deer and her little one running toward the road I was on and the way they were running I think they were going to cross the road, so I whistled and they both stopped on a dime. So I als...

Day 6- Thurs. July 5/18

I am up at 6am packing up the campsite and doing Day 5 blog. I am eating fruit, some peanuts and drinking G2 for it is already hot. The hills are still here and I am still amazed how different it is on the Canadian side. Another historic site in Pudneyville right along the lake. There have been quite a lot of War of 1812 plaques along the route where I have been pulling over to read. The bridge over the bay close to Rochester to Sea Breeze is out so I had to take an alternate route which led me to a Hwy where bikes are not allowed. I turned around and got off the bike to checkthe map. A lady came by with bottled water and asked if I was okay. I told her I need to get over the bay. She told me about the long way or take the Hwy I was just on for about 2 miles  and turn off. This will not be the first time where I have taken a Hwy where bikes are not allowed. This happened in 2015 when I went around Lake Erie and took The Thomas Edison Bridge over the bay without any proble...

Day 5- Wed. July 4/18

Thank you for your comments. Sorry Hon I couldn`t call you last night, didn`t have service. It wasn`t a good start today, after 9 years the kick stand snapped. The stand was very beneficial to me. It allowed me get off the bike anytime and leave upright and now I have to find a spot to lean it against something. If I find a bike shop I will get it replaced. Lots of climbs on Hwy 3 and then on route 104 the shoulders are very wide. I come to a split in the road, stay on 104 or take Hwy 1 which will take me closer to the lake. That was a mistake, more climbs but not once did I see the Lake. I had to use lowest gear on a lot of the hills. I reached Oswego 40kms later and went to see another War of 1812 attraction, Fort Ontario. I couldn`t pass this up. I took some pictures and also a picture 9 mile nuclear site. I couldn`t believe I found a bike shop but it was closed being the 4th of July. I am back on Route 104 the Seaway trail and the hills I had to climb, lowest gear on most of them a...

Day 4- Tues. July 3/18

It is another great morning even though I am without shower and shave. I forgot to mention, I am back on the towel for seat back on Day 3. It feels good. I had breakfast in Collins Bay just outside of Kingston and then I rode to see Old Fort Henry, very nice. I am now at the ferry to cross to Wolfe Isl. I am waiting for the 10:15 crossing followed by a half hour bike ride across Wolfe Isl. I am early for the 12:15 crossing to Cape Vincent. While waiting I had a nice swim and I also was talking to a woman who was sun bathing outside of her cottage. She charged my phone after some long conversation. This very is a lot smaller and it was only 15 mins to cross. I am now on Hwy 12e, the Seaway Trail and it is very nice. I am now on Hwy 3, still the Seaway trail when I see the sign Sackett`s Harbour War of 1812 site. Well you know I feel when I see War of 1812 stuff. I spent 2 hours there looking at everything possible. That was fantastic. I am now back to some serious riding. I hav...

Day 3- Mon. July 2/18

It is another hot day at 7:30am in the morning. I had breakfast in Brighton and it was not a good one. The waitress was a one woman show, taking orders, clearing and cleaning tables, and serving food. The waitress w2ould only fill one of the water bottles with only half ice. I really appreciate Tim Horton's, great breakfast and water bottles full ice with water. I am going through 3 bottles of water and some G2 every two hours. I will fill up when I see a Tim Horton`s. When I passed Belleview, I noticed a lot of pot shops on the way. It was too bad they were closed...man. I had a nice swim in Nappanee where I decided to stay on Hwy 2 and turn off onto Hwy 7 to Hwy 33 to Bath. According to the map, this will take me along Lake Ontario. This was the best move ever. The water is right there, lots of trees and a nice breeze. I really couldn`t feel the heat. I went through towns of Millhaven and Amherstview. I stopped in Fairfield Park for a hotdog and asked about campgrounds and there ...

Day 2- Sun. July 1/18

I packed up the campsite and having breakfast in Pickering. I blogged fri. and Sat. while eating breakfast. It was 9:30am by the time I was done, not good. Again another hot start. There are lots of traffic lights between Pickering to Oshawa.  I am having a break in Newcastle and a local overheard me talking about the waterfront trail and he guided me to the trail. When I turned down the road, I could see some hills to climb, I started to second guess myself but it worked alright for I met Doug and his wife Joanne Barlow and the riding party. Doug and Joanne belong to the Oshawa cycling club and every Canada day they celebrate Canada`s birthday by riding Canada`s age...151 kms. They have 30kms to finish. Well done. I had lunch and a swim in Port Hood.  I am camping at Cobourg East campground. I tried buying beer and ordering pizza but the pizza place didn`t have a driver and no one wanted to give up their beer. The campground owners was cooking burgers and I was offered o...

Day 1- Sat. June 30/18

I packed all the panniers from the duffle bag and I am ready to go. It is already very hot and I am prepared this time unlike the ride in 2011. I have plenty of G2. I have a map to Burlington and I still had to ask two people to help get to where I was going. North shore Blvd and Lakeshore very scenic and the houses are huge. Lots of trees, not feeling the sun I finally hit a Tim Horton`s in Oakville and had breakfast. So far there are bike lanes and traffic is not very heavy. Now Lakeshore takes you directly to Toronto and during the ride I looked at the road sign and it says Erin Mills Parkway. What....I stopped at a gas station and asked if I missed a turn. Three kms. back is the turn right onto Lakeshore. AAAH..back I go.. I have rode through Burlington, Oakville, Missasauga and Port Credit. I am now in Toronto and when I realized I was on the ramp for the Gardiner Exp. I missed another turn. This time it was only yards. The road took to me the edge of Lake Ontario where I...
