Day 5- Wed. July 4/18
Thank you for your comments. Sorry Hon I couldn`t call you last night, didn`t have service. It wasn`t a good start today, after 9 years the kick stand snapped. The stand was very beneficial to me. It allowed me get off the bike anytime and leave upright and now I have to find a spot to lean it against something. If I find a bike shop I will get it replaced. Lots of climbs on Hwy 3 and then on route 104 the shoulders are very wide. I come to a split in the road, stay on 104 or take Hwy 1 which will take me closer to the lake. That was a mistake, more climbs but not once did I see the Lake. I had to use lowest gear on a lot of the hills. I reached Oswego 40kms later and went to see another War of 1812 attraction, Fort Ontario. I couldn`t pass this up. I took some pictures and also a picture 9 mile nuclear site. I couldn`t believe I found a bike shop but it was closed being the 4th of July. I am back on Route 104 the Seaway trail and the hills I had to climb, lowest gear on most of them and it was like this all day and it was getting hot. This ride reminded me a lot like Northern Ontario. A man crossed the road up ahead and offered me a bottled water. He had passed me climbing up the hill and lives where he met me on the road. He thought I could use the drink. He was correct. Thank you Jim. Rochester would take me to about 160 kms and I don`t think I am going to make it. I have stopped twice for ice cream and refill water bottles. I am drinking so much water, the humidity today is very high. I think today has been the hottest and I am climbing all these hills. I was climbing the hill on the other side of fair Haven and motorist yells out "you got this" thanks for the encouragement. I had dinner in Wolcott and this is a first. Pub served beer but not food and pizza place across the street does not have beer. HUH!!! I got permission to bring spaghetti over to the pub so I can have beer with my meal. Also this pub allows smoking, it really affected my eyes. I finally found campsite in South Sodus. I was greeted by Kelly and the first thing she said you could use a beer. I offered to buy but she said don`t be silly. Kelly directed me to Carol to get my campsite. Kelly asked me if I wanted some pizza, how can I refuse the offer. Kelly brought over two tall cans of beer and two slices if pizza. Life is good Thank you Kelly. I also met Kelly`s husband Bob. They have a nice set up here. After a long hot ride the day ended well. Thanks to Bob and Kelly Rose.
