Day 7- Fri. July 6/18
During the night, rainfall was heavy, perfect conditions for a good night sleep. temperature is lowest for the whole week and now I can wear the black top. Greg said I am about 90kms away from Lewiston and it is only 100kms to Hamilton, so I have decided to try to make it to McMaster and drive home that evening. I want to get home to see Hon. I went through Greenwood Cemetery where lies buried Revolutionary and Civil war veterans. I am on Route 18, very flat, nice breeze off the lake, perfect conditions for a 200km ride. I went through a lot of small well kept towns and the lake is still very visible. I have a couple things that has happened during the ride which I didn`t say but I keep thinking about them and I wanted to share. The first happened on Wolfe Isl on Day 4. While riding I saw mommy deer and her little one running toward the road I was on and the way they were running I think they were going to cross the road, so I whistled and they both stopped on a dime. So I also stopped and we`re looking at each other and then suddenly the mom turned around and then the little one and they started running in the opposite direction. It was such a beautiful sight. The second one is I was coming up to a group of Amish settlers building a large shed. They were all dressed the same, blue shirts, dark pants and straw hats. The boys were dressed the same and helping out. I t reminded of the movie Witness with Harrison Ford. Anyways, I was ready to take a picture when one the Amish came running towards the road waving his arms and yelling "no pictures" I asked why and he kept on saying " not allowed" So I didn`t. I have been thinking of those two anecdotes during the ride. Back to the ride, I took a picture off the Lewiston Bridge and on the Canadian side the lineup is long. I went to the main building hoping I would get served right away just like in Buffalo. A border officer came out and asked " can I help you" I told him I like to get home and he says you have to get in line like the rest of the cars. Huh!!!I think I was in line for 45 mins. I rode to Niagara On The Lake where I got on Lakeshore Rd. I took a picture of Toronto, bit hazy but you can tell because you can see the CN tower. I am now on the Service rd. parallel with the QEW , lake still in view. and this road more or less took me to Hamilton. I had to cross over the QEW and pretty much ride from one end of town to the other. I reached McMaster U. at 9pm and I loaded the truck and was home at 10: 45pm. I gave Hon a hug and kiss and told her it is good to be back home.
