Day 6- Thurs. July 5/18
I am up at 6am packing up the campsite and doing Day 5 blog. I am eating fruit, some peanuts and drinking G2 for it is already hot. The hills are still here and I am still amazed how different it is on the Canadian side. Another historic site in Pudneyville right along the lake. There have been quite a lot of War of 1812 plaques along the route where I have been pulling over to read. The bridge over the bay close to Rochester to Sea Breeze is out so I had to take an alternate route which led me to a Hwy where bikes are not allowed. I turned around and got off the bike to checkthe map. A lady came by with bottled water and asked if I was okay. I told her I need to get over the bay. She told me about the long way or take the Hwy I was just on for about 2 miles and turn off. This will not be the first time where I have taken a Hwy where bikes are not allowed. This happened in 2015 when I went around Lake Erie and took The Thomas Edison Bridge over the bay without any problems, but in Cleveland I got pulled over and was told to get off right away. So here I go again and no problems. The real scare was going over the bridge without shoulders and traffic was fast. I went for a swim at Durand Beach, really hot. It hasn`t been good drinking warm water and G2. I got on the State Parkway and this road is great, fresh pavement and flat and right a long the lake. There are lots of houses along the lake. It was a good thing all water bottles were filled for the next 40kms there wasn`t any stores. The last 10kms the Parkway is in its existing condition, concrete with large pieces missing causing me to avoid hitting them. I think they could do some damage to the bike. I passed Lakeview State Park and not too far up the road is a store with everything, ice cream, fruit, G2 and hamburger stand. While I was eating ice cream, a man comes over and his name is Greg Stafford and we were talking about the trip. Greg is a cyclist as well. He has rode to Algonquin Park, New Orleans, Kansas City and so on. I asked Greg about pubs and campsites up ahead. It was quite away but if its beer you`re looking for you can go back to the campground you passed and look me up. I can hook you up with a couple of beers. When Greg left, I decided I will go back and camp at Lakeview after I have a hamburger, hotdog and two small apple pies. Greg told me his site number and I was able to get a site right across from his site. When I arrived I saw Greg and yelled hey and he said I will be right over with the beers. Life is good. I gave Greg my blog card and thanks for everything. Another day that ended well.
